Old Vines Monastrell
D.O. Yecla
The Monastrell grape, also known in the Rhone
Valley in France as Mourvedre, has been the indigenous grape variety
in Yecla and cultivated here for centuries (discovered as early
as 15th century). Handpicked from more than 40 year old, head
pruned bush vines in blend with Shiraz; Flor del Montgó
Monastrell is a complex wine that saturates the palate with blackberries,
dark cherry, plum, licorice, iron and mineral flavors mingling
under a blanket of soft tannins. The dense color, aromas and flavors
leave a lasting impression both on the glass and on the taster.
Our winemaker hopes that his efforts to create a great wine from
Old Vines Monastrell introduces the world to the true potential
of both the varietal character of the Monastrell grape and to
the cult region of Yecla.
